What is Acetylcysteine?

Acetylcysteine is a mucolytic agent used to treat abnormal or viscous mucous secretions. It is also an antidote for acute acetaminophen toxicity. It may be used to prevent renal failure induced by a reaction to radio-contrast dye and to treat distal intestinal obstruction syndrome.
